A gondola ride in the city of romance
I booked a romantic day trip to Venice as a surprise for my husband. We came to take in the sights of this unique floating city full of amazing architecture. After we had seen all of the important sites, we had some free time, which we used for a gondola ride. We even kissed under the Bridge of Sighs - it was so romantic!

PIAZZA SAN MARCO – DOGE'S PALACE
When you arrive in Venice, you will be escorted by your guide to the Piazza San Marco. This square represents the heart of the city, and it was the center of social, religious, and political life in the medieval and Renaissance eras. Situated on the square are two of the most recognizable buildings in Venice: Doge's Palace and St. Mark's Basilica. Standing in the courtyard in front of the Doge's Palace, you will be able to admire its features and different building styles. The palace served as the Venetian seat of government until 1797 and the conquests of the Napoleonic Wars. Its breathtaking beauty is one of the main attractions of the Florence to Venice Day Trip.
PIAZZA SAN MARCO – ST. MARK'S BASILICA
While you stroll around the Piazza San Marco, take a look at the eastern end of the square. There, you will see another Venetian landmark, St. Mark's Basilica, about which your tour guide will tell you more. Find out who wanted to destroy the relics inside St. Mark's Basilica and why. Also, take some time to truly enjoy the Byzantine architectural style of the basilica, which is actually a testament to the strong links between Venice and the Byzantine Empire. The building has undergone many reconstructions and enlargements over the centuries, and it is a unique combination of Byzantine and Italian Gothic architecture.
GRAND CANAL – THE ARTERY OF VENICE
As you probably know already, the city of Venice is built on water. During your day trip to Venice, you will spend most of your time walking along many waterways. This means that the usual streets and avenues are, in fact, a series of canals. They crisscross the city and are 40 kilometers (25 miles) long in total. The Grand Canal was the biggest and most important of them, and even today, it is one of the major traffic corridors of the city. We highly recommend enjoying an optional gondola ride during your free time to discover Venice from a different angle.
MURANO GLASS – A GLASS-BLOWING DEMONSTRATION
As a part of your Florence to Venice day trip, you will be taken into a Murano glass workshop. There, you will see a small demonstration of glass-blowing and making. Watch skillful artisans who still practice the old technique of making glass. To create the precious items, they are using their tools, ovens, and lungs! In order to inflate the glowing glass and model it into a bottle or a vase, they blow the air from their lungs. After an entire day of exploration of the canals, bridges, cathedrals, and palaces of this unique city, it is time to board the bus and head back to Florence. Your escort will notify you when and where to meet them.

The most famous bridges in Venice
On your Florence to Venice Day Trip, you have a chance to visit two famous Venetian bridges, the Rialto Bridge and the Bridge of Sighs. Today, four bridges exist that cross the Grand Canal, but up until the 19th century, there was only one: the Rialto Bridge. Built in the 12th century, it connects the districts of San Marco and San Polo, but in those days, it was a pontoon bridge. In the 16th century, a stone bridge was built in its place. It was designed by Antonio da Ponte, a Venetian architect and engineer, and represents the architectural achievement of Renaissance-era Venice. The Rialto Bridge consists of a single stone-arch span that allows gondolas and smaller ships to navigate beneath the structure. The name Rialto comes from the commercial district, which was the financial center of this maritime power.
Another famous bridge you'll have an opportunity to see on your Florence to Venice Day Trip is the Bridge of Sighs. It was built in 1600 and connects the Doge's Palace to the Prigioni Nuovo, or the New Prison. The legend has it that prisoners would take one last look at the city and sigh at their fate before being dragged into a dark dungeon. One of the most famous prisoners who walked the Bridge of Sighs was Giacomo Casanova, an 18th-century adventurer, scam artist, poet, and infamous womanizer!
According to tradition, lovers will be granted eternal love if they kiss on a gondola right under the bridge. Why not book this Florence to Venice Day Trip and find out if it's true?
