I’ve been to lots of museums, but the Palazzo Vecchio is something else. The Salone dei Cinquecento was just stunning - I literally didn’t know where to look. Wherever you turn your head, there’s a new gorgeous fresco. Judith and Holofernes blew me away - the statue was just so realistic!

Did you know Leonardo da Vinci ruined a fresco in the Palazzo Vecchio?
Leonardo da Vinci was commissioned to paint a wall in the Palazzo Vecchio. He was experimenting by mixing wax into his pigments. After completing part of the fresco, he noticed the paint was drying very slowly. To speed up the process, braziers with hot coals were brought in, but this backfired. The wax melted, causing the colors to run down the walls, ruining the painting.
