I’m really not a good cook, but I feel much more confident after my cooking class in Florence. My family is always teasing me about how I can’t even boil pasta, but now I know how to prepare homemade pasta and a million other things about cooking! I’m so glad I attended this tour since I really learned a lot. In fact, when I get home, the first thing I’ll do is cook my mom a surprise dinner!
Before this Florence Cooking Tour, I thought I was a pretty good cook. Now…I know I am! Our chef/guide Mario was fantastic. He taught us how to recognize the freshest vegetables, spot the best cut of meat, and pair dishes with the right type of bread. While we were cooking, he also gave us many helpful tips, which made for an educational, fun cooking experience. I’m very grateful for his guidance - it made me a better cook!

Did you know that one of Florence’s main delicacies is bread?
Pane Toscano (or Tuscan bread) is the only bread in the world traditionally made without salt. Urban myths have several explanations for this. One is that Pisa refused to trade their salt with Florence. Another states that salt was too expensive. Finally, a third claims Tuscan prosciutto was already so salty the bread had to be bland. In any case, pane Toscano is a rustic, oval loaf with a crunchy crust and springy insides. It’s simple but so delicious!
